Objectives

  • Identify the etiology, risk factors, and clinical presentation of hyperkalemia, including ECG manifestations.
  • Recognize common medications and patient populations associated with increased risk of hyperkalemia.
  • Identify potassium-containing medications and products (including supplements and salt substitutes).
  • List the indications, dosage forms, and storage requirements for sodium polystyrene sulfonate, patiromer, and sodium zirconium cyclosilicate.
