Objectives

  • Identify the etiology, risk factors, and clinical presentation of hyperkalemia, including ECG manifestations.
  • Outline evidence-based acute pharmacologic interventions using the 3-step approach: membrane stabilization, intracellular shift, and elimination.
  • Discuss chronic management strategies, including the role of patiromer and sodium zirconium cyclosilicate in enabling RAAS/MRA continuation.
  • Describe current guideline recommendations to optimize therapy in CKD, heart failure, and other high-risk populations.
